One in six couples face infertility and are in need of fertility treatment . These couples need an IVF ( test tube baby) treatment but are unable to proceed due to financial constraint. As a fertility specialist and father of 3 lovely children, I would like to share the joy a child brings into our lives. Therefore, I wish to help couples requiring IVF treatment to achieve parenthood by organising a fundraising campaign. Let’s give them the joy of parenthood ! We can make a difference in their lives !

This is a pilot project . I believe if WE can come together , we can make this project a success and it will serve as a building block for future larger projects. My target is to collect at least RM20000 , which may help 2 couples to receive an IVF treatment.

I am ” transforming” myself to become a long distance runner as I will be running a half-marathon by the end of the fundraising period.

I hope to inspire YOU into realising that YOU too can help couples struggling with infertility.

You Shouldn’t Feel Ashamed Talking about IVF

by Dr Agilan Arjunan , Fertility Specialist & Gynaecologist , KL Fertility Centre ( Malaysia)

“You need an IVF ?? ! “

Common reaction from those around you if you ever mention that you need an IVF to get pregnant.

The year is 2018 and yet we do not openly speak about IVF . Infertility and especially male infertility is still buried in shame.

This even happens in western countries such as USA.

Couple should not be ashamed or embarrassed when speaking about the need for fertility treatment, especially an IVF.

We are not ashamed when talking about diabetes or high blood pressure or any other medical condition. In fact we encourage those patients to deal and treat  their illness .

Why can’t we do the same when it comes to infertility ? ??

Wait for my article , in which I will be discussing about this “taboo’ topic of IVF stigma .

by Dr Agilan Arjunan, Fertility Specialist & Gynaecologist , KL Fertility Centre ( Malaysia)

Healthy eating has a positive impact on sperm quality improvement.

Recent study supports this theory. This research which was carried out on healthy fertile men shows that adding nuts in their daily diet improves sperm count and quality.

More importantly, it shows improvement in sperm DNA integrity , which is an important parameter in male infertility.

So in conclusion, you can start adding on some nuts in your daily diet to improve male infertility and your IVF success rate.

by Dr Agilan Arjunan, Fertility Specialist & Gynaecologist, KL Fertility Centre ( Malaysia)

Pain relates to a neurological sensation causing emotional or physical discomfort. The endurance of pain not only limits the individuals capabilities but may alter their quality of life. Therefore, the pursue of relief is of outmost importance and need.

Pelvic pain is commonly associated with women and is one of the common reasons for a visit to the gynaecologist. The diligent gynaecologist conducts a through examination, orders several test as required, identifies the root cause and administers appropriate treatment. This task is carried out so that the pelvic pain is relieved and the women is back to her pain free lifestyle.

What if the medical examination and routine test by the gynaecologist yield normal results? In that case, what is the cause of the pelvic pain? Can the pain be relieved?

I am sure some women have gone through this similar predicament. They are quite familiar with the medical term “Endometriosis”. A condition related to pelvic pain that have silently been endured by these women.

What is Endometriosis ?

Endometriosis is a condition where the cells of the uterus ( womb) lining ( endometrium) is found outside of the womb. Endometriosis is often associated with cyclical period pain and sometimes  it leads to long term pelvic pain.

Deposits of endometriosis can be found anyway outside of the womb, namely on the innermost layer of the abdomen ( peritoneum) , ovaries , Fallopian tubes , bladder and large bowels.

In severe cases, it can also be found on the vaginal wall.
