sperm

New exciting research finding showed that sperm is NOT ONLY important to fertilize an egg (ovum) but the sperm actually influence the women’s immune system in a way to help fertilization and to accept the embryo.

To quote from the source:  “This overturns our current understanding of what sperm are capable of — they are not just carriers of genetic material, but also agents for convincing the female to invest reproductive resources with that male.”

This finding also means that sperm is not only important to create an embryo but it also can influence the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Pregnancy conditions such as recurrent miscarriages, pre-eclampsia, preterm birth and stillbirth are influenced by maternal immune response and this could very well influenced by the sperm from male partner.

This research again highlights the importance of paying a lot more attention to male partners sperm or his semen quality in the evaluation of infertility or recurrent miscarriage.

My advice to every couple who are struggling to conceive is to pay a great deal of attention to his semen quality. It is not only important to have a good sperm count, but it’s quality matters too…
